Not everyone in the dating scene wants to settle down and start a meaningful relationship.  Maybe that’s you.  If you love your single life to the fullest, then you might not be ready to settle down just yet.  Are you afraid of losing your independence and letting go of your freedom?  Do you feel like there is a lot more fun to be had?  Before you settle down in a meaningful relationship, you need to have the opportunity to grow as a person and discovery yourself.  So if you’re not ready to settle down just yet, don’t panic because that’s okay.

On the other hand, if you’ve been seeing someone for a while and are not ready to settle down, it could mean that there are too many things that just aren’t right in your relationship.  Maybe this relationship isn’t the one, perhaps you still have feeling for an ex, maybe you’re afraid of settling down, or perhaps there are just too many problems in the relationship.  With so many scenarios, it can be tough to figure out what’s going on with you.

Today, our Ohio matchmakers are going to show you the signs you’re not ready to settle down just yet.

1. You like to keep things casual.

Right now, your number one fear is commitment, so you like to take things slow, and that’s okay.  You know that you’re really not ready to settle down if you meet a wonderful person and still want to keep things casual.  They ask you out on multiple dates but you’re not willing to see them more than once a week.

They message you and send you pictures all the time, but you choose to ignore them on purpose.  Basically, whenever someone gets too close to you, you start to push them away.  This is a major sign that you’re not ready to settle down and are afraid to be in a relationship.  You need to figure out what’s holding you back; otherwise, you’re going to be alone forever.

2. You’re scared.

The simplest way to figure out if you’re ready to settle down or not is simply by evaluating how afraid you are of the idea.  Before settling down or taking a step towards a relationship, there are likely to be a lot of nerves involved.  Honestly, it would be weird if there weren’t any nervousness here.  After all, there’s a lot at stake.

On the other hand, if you’re just scared because your gut is telling you that something is not right before you even take the first step, then you might be afraid of settling down.

3. You keep breaking up over little things.

You love playing the dating game because it’s fun.  It’s nice to go out for drinks with someone and flirt with them a little.  But you never follow up with dates.  You might go out with someone a few times but break things off over the little things, like how they chew their food ow how they cross their legs.  Basically, you find any excuse you can to break up with them and move on to someone else.

If this sounds like you, then perhaps you need to admit that you’re not ready to settle down yet.  There is nothing wrong with not being ready to be in a relationship, but you must realize what you need to do to get there.

4. You don’t want to let go of your independence.

At this moment in time, you love your independence and everything about it.  You’ve become accustomed to living your single life and are afraid to let someone else come in.  You have your own space, maybe a condo that is decorated just the way you want it.  You enjoy the fact that you don’t have to answer to anyone, and you don’t want to give this up.

You know that if you settle down in a committed relationship, you’ll have to let go of all those things that you love so much.  Seriously, just the thought of it gives you the chills.

5. You still need time to focus on yourself.

Before you enter a committed relationship with someone, you need to know who you are.  You need to learn and grow as a person.  If you feel like you’re not ready to be in a relationship just yet, you might still need more time to grow up before you settle down.  For now, take some time and focus on the areas of your life that will help you grow as a person.

6. You Just Want to Have a Good Time

As professional matchmakers, we know firsthand that settling down isn’t for everyone, especially the younger crowd.  You shouldn’t feel as though you have to settle down if you’re not truly ready.  Of course, everyone has friends who are in serious relationships, but don’t feel like you should rush settling down.  Each person has their own time, and maybe you’re just not ready yet.

Rather than thinking about paying a mortgage and starting a family, you might be thinking about partying on the weekend and meeting new people.  You don’t want to be tied down to someone and give up your single days.  For you, this is the time to enjoy your life to the fullest and party like there’s no tomorrow.

7. You don’t have time for anyone else.

You’ve reached a point in your life where you have so many things going on at once.  You finally landed your dream job—which you’re working hard at every day—your social life is booked to the fullest, and you’re finally getting your work-life balance right.  And then there are many things to do in your spare time, like going to the gym, volunteering, and spending time with friends.  You question whether you have time to squeeze someone else into your life?  And since you’re super busy, you tell yourself probably not.
